Criado pelo conde Rodolphe van der Straten Ponthoz em 1964, percorreu os melhores circuitos do mundo com os seus Mini Cooper Lola Alfa Romeo, McLaren, Chevron e estiveram presentes em vila Real em 1969 com dois Alfa Romeo T 33 vindo s dirctamente de Le Mans e em 1970 Lola T 70 Mk#B.

Sur Mini Cooper au tout début, ensuite avec Alfa Romeo, puis McLaren, Chevron, Lola et Penske. De nombreux pilotes de talents se succéderont pour apporter à VDS deux titres de F5000 British et un titre F5000 Tasman, jusqu’à la consécration ultime : le titre CanAm avec un voiture de sa propre fabrication, la VDS 001.

Citons entre autre : Teddy Pilette, ‘Taf’ Gosselin, Peter Gethin, Warwick Brown, Geoff Brabham, Al Holbert ou John Andretti. Many talented drivers drove for VDS Team enabling it to win 2 F5000 British titles and one F5000 Tasman title on its way to the pinnacle of its success, the CanAm title with a car of its own design, the VDS001. These include Teddy Pilette, 禅af・Gosselin, Peter Gethin, Warwick Brown, Geoff Brabham, Geoff Lees, Al Holbert and John Andretti + many others. A propósito de Vila Real e das excelentes imagens aqui publicadas, envio também algumas fotos (aliás bem fraquinhas...) que tirei em 1969, mas que servem para se verem as condições de segurança que havia na altura.

Numa delas, atrás dum GT 40 e dum Porsche, vê-se um fabuloso Alfa Romeo 33/3, modelo que nunca mais voltei a ver. Nas outras fotos, já não me lembro bem que carros eram
